This Tuesday 8 December, Grup Esportiu Espalmador will host the 42nd John Tunks Memorial Mini-marathon in association with the Consell de Formentera. The event will feature a 12K itinerary that participants can run or skate along with a 2.8K option for young ones, but covid-19 safety measures mean under-12 modalities typically held in the streets of Sant Francesc will have to wait. Contestants must wear a mask until the trial begins and put it on again when once they’ve crossed the finish line. The awards ceremony has also been temporarily suspended, with plans in place to offer winners their prizes as they arrive.
The 12K modality is full, but space is still available on the 2.8K circuit that sets out from Sant Ferran. Registration at this year’s event is free. Interested parties can sign up and get complete information about the competitions at www.elitechip.com or at Plaça de la Constitució in Sant Francesc until 10am the day of the function. Numbers will be handed out the same morning from 9.30am to 10.30am.
Start times:
10.30am—Skating, single category
11.00am—John Tunks Memorial 12K Mini-marathon
Approx. 11.40am—2,800m circuit with start in Sant Ferran
Traffic will be blocked from 10.30am to 1.00pm along two stretches of PM-820: from La Savina to Sant Francesc to the first Sant Ferran roundabout, and from La Savina to Es Pujols to Sant Ferran.
Participants from off the island are invited to use a free round-trip shuttle to get from Port de La Savina to the starting blocks in Sant Francesc.
