Formentera expands support for at-risk kids and teens

cartell 2021 poster ANAR BThe Formentera Department of Social Welfare is stepping up support for at-risk children and adolescents on the island through a deal with the Anar Foundation, an organisation that promotes and defends the rights of children and adolescents who are susceptible to risk and neglect.

Social welfare chief Rafael Ramírez stressed the collaboration meant “more robust support for minors locally” and described the Anar Foundation as “very useful and accessible for young people 24 hours a day, 365 days a year”. The support service is also professionally-staffed, confidential and free of charge. Ramírez said the initiative would allow Formentera’s child protection services to expand their scope, and insisted the Consell would continue to work in close collaboration and share information with the 25-year veterans of non-profit work.

The Anar Foundation’s online support for children and families encompasses a variety of areas. The psychology, legal and social work professionals at the Children and Teens’ Helpline (116111) listen to callers as long as they need and assist in finding solutions to problems.

The Anar Foundation also maintains an email address (balears@anar.org) and chat (www.anar.org) for immediate, anonymous help from professionals.
