Coastal authority OKs concession for eight beach bars and two sailing schools on Formentera coast

Today the Governing Board of the Consell de Formentera made public the resolution of the Ministry for Ecological Transition's Directorate General of the Coast and Sea granting concession titles to use 907 square metres of maritime-terrestrial public domain for beach service facilities on Formentera.

The concessions are granted for ten years, extendable up to five years to enable more efficient management of these services.

The coastal authority accepted comments submitted by the Consell urging that all the beach bars or "kiosks" be allowed to continue operating under the same conditions and be taken down only one month a year in winter. The authority thus accepted a take-down period from 15 January to 15 February as well as the alternative locations which had been proposed for the two kiosks on Platja de Migjorn.

The approval covers eight kiosks with terrace and toilets and two sailing schools, in addition to other elements associated with the lifeguard service.

The response from the coastal authority sets the deadlines and guarantees that the kiosk service can be provided this summer.

Article 29.3 of the Law of Consells 4/2022 bars acting local cabinets from awarding contracts and concessions in excess of €100,000. Awards will therefore be determined once the new government is formed.
