Family puppet show "Las Cottons" explores family's survival amid Industrial Revolution

The Office of Culture of the Consell de Formentera is pleased to announce that the Anita Maravillas troupe will present their play Las Cotton in the Sala de Cultura (Cinema) at 6.00pm, Saturday 11 February. The silent 50-minute production tells the story of a family forced to adapt to the new pace of life imposed by the Industrial Revolution and the price they must pay for this change. It is a family-friendly show for children ages five and up.

The show follows the Cottons as they set out in search of a new life and opportunities in the city. Among rooftops and city lights, amid the fabric, threads and machines of the factory, a mother and her two daughters will face new adventures and unknown perils. But, this time they are not alone, and they will throw themselves headlong into their pursuit of happiness.

The Anita Maravillas troupe say Las Cotton shines a light "on the arrival of industrialisation, the exodus to the cities and the harshness of the factory, but also on the women who understood that achieving a dignified life meant sticking together."
